One Store: Bienvenidos a Grand Cata

Over the course of the last few months, we’ve taken you on a countdown journey with our concept. And it all comes down to one place, Grand Cata, the store we are excited to open today in the Shaw neighborhood of Washington, DC.

We have 1,512 square feet with more than 300 hand-picked selections of wine, beer, spirits representing the Caribbean, Central and South American, and Europe. With time, our inventory is set to grow and include gourmet food and spices, as well as other cultural, artisanal, and unique regional products.

We consider the store itself to be a crafted space that is also a continuation of the cultural celebration we are cultivating here. Chilean architect José Tohá of Grupo 7, a renowned DC firm, put his heart and soul into designing the space to make the spirit of our shared heritage come alive: the raw wood, soft leather, galvanized steel, and Spanish tiles are all reminiscent of the places where our wine comes from, whether the Baja, Patagonia, Priorat, or Dolomitas.

To begin, let us acquaint you with the geography of the store:

Daily Cata

The center of the space is anchored by a bold wrap-around counter, from which our talented and friendly Latino wine experts will serve you throughout the space. Feel free to stop by and have a conversation, or move your feet to the many sounds of our music. From this area we will also offer tastings as part of our #DailyCata program to help acquaint you with items that are new to DC, or new to you! Discover a flavor or sharpen your palate.  Selections change daily, so visit often and taste often.

Old World

To your right as you enter the store, you will pass by the Old World selections, with wines from the European regions whose heritage has prominently marked Latin American gastronomy and tradition.  In addition to the classics, we feature lesser known wines from southern Catalunya and Bierzo in Spain, Alentejo and Beiras in Portugal, and Island Italian wines from Sardegna and Sicily to name a few.

Cueva de Cervezas

Past the Old World wines, you will find the “Cueva de Cervezas” – our beer room. This selection of local, domestic, Latin American and European beers focuses on seasonal and limited releases.

Pasillo de la Fama

Then, turn left and walk down our "Pasillo de la Fama" – our hall of fame. This steel shelving holds the jewels of our collection: iconic high-end wines that make an exceptional gift or satisfy a serious collector, including signature bottles from Latin America, La Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Piedmont, Tuscany, and Duoro. Sharing this passage way are our fortified wines, liquers, and Latin spirits collections, including tequilas, mescal, rum, cachaça, brandy, sherry, port, Madeira, gin, and singani.

Nuevo Mundo

The heart of our concept. Here you will find over 100+ of wines exclusively from the Americas, including Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Brazil, Mexico, and also Latin-influenced selections from California, Oregon, and Washington state. Malbec, Carmenere, and Tannat make a strong presence, but this is only the beginning of the Latin Wine revolución!  Discover Brazilian Chardonnay, Mexican Zinfandel, Chilean Carignan, and Tempranillo from Argentina. These wines are excitingly affordable for their incredible quality and uniqueness, with many delicious selections yours to take home for under $20.

Especiales

Speaking of affordable, we also dedicated an area to our "Bueno, Rico, Barato" selection (BRB vinos) – wines priced under $16, perfect for everyday wine drinkers like us.

El tridente is our special monthly trifecta meant to spark your culinary ambitions and imagination. We choose our top three favorites for the month and offer them for a special price.

Communal Table

At the end of your journey you will see our rustic communal table where we will host intimate classes and events. Spreading our knowledge and passion is a key part of our mission and we welcome you to share with us and your friends and neighbors new and old. Check our calendar for upcoming events.
